Brazil beat Paraguay 4-3 in penalty shootout, highest for the ninth time

In the Copa América quarters of the Brazilian team, Paraguay defeated Paraguay 4-3 in the penalty shootout on Friday to make it to the semi-finals. This is the sixth time after the tournament's format change in 1993 when the team made it to the semi-finals. The special thing is that when Brazil played the semi-finals in the last 5 times, then they made it to the final. Four of these (1997, 1999, 2004, 2007) also won the title.

In the opening match of the group stage, Brazil, who looked faltering, returned to the rhythm by defeating Peru 5-0 in their last match. Even in the semi-final, its players did not give any chance to Paraguay, showing the same belligerent game and reaching the penalty shootout.

11th draw between Brazil and Paraguay

Brazil Copa becomes the 9-penalties shootout team in America's history. Copa, along with Paraguay, reached Brazil's last two encounters (2011 and 2015) in the US even before the penalty shootout. Then Paraguay defeated Brazil. Both teams have so far played 11 games in this tournament.

Gonzalez missed the first opportunity for Paraguay

Gabriel Hessus scored the first goal for Brazil in a penalty shootout. In reply, Paraguay's Denis Gonzalez failed to score. Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Baker foiled his goal by placing a dive on his left. Subsequently, Roberto Fermino, Philip Coutinho, Markinhos and Williamson converted their shots into goals for Brazil. Gustavo Gomez of Paraguay missed his last shot, and Brazil won the match 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

Coach expressed concern over the bad situation of the ground

After the match, the head coach of the Brazil team said that the ground situation was very bad. This led to Brazil having trouble showing offensive games. Commenting on the field, Tite said that we had to play in a place where the players had to struggle in passing.
